Merry Christmas to all
2025 could and should be Labour's year. Let's remember to celebrate that and be of good cheer.

Labour people - be of good cheer. We have a government doing good and radical things. The image above is all true. Celebrate - Labour not only won an election hands down but are putting power to good purpose. Especially in retooling the energy infrastructure of the UK. In finally grasping the nettle of planning reform to build much needed housing. In bringing forward bills to protect and promote worker’s rights.
It is fair to say that Labour’s start in government has been wobbly - particularly in terms of their communication and posture in government. They too should be of better cheer. Less apologetic and more celebratory of the much longed-for opportunity to govern and make a difference. Let them go into 2025 comfortable in their political skins, refreshed and ready for the governing job they have craved for so long.
Let us also be of good cheer that Kemi Badenoch’s leadership of the Tories is thus far proving a very damp squib. In the Labour Party we are constitutionally incapable of getting rid of leaders (and despite what some of my criticism might sound like - this is absolutely not a call for Keir to go). The Tory Party of late seem constitutionally incapable of holding on to them. The Tories are dreaming of impossiblism and Reform are offering it. Both offer a certain amount of threat to Labour. But under-priced is the threat they also offer to the credibility of a right wing offer. It will be hard but perfectly possible to hold back the right wing populist tide in Britain - especially as both right wing parties scrap over it without the slightest concern about the much bigger threat of the Lib Dems.
I will continue to criticise Labour in 2025 - especially on political communication which is my area of expertise. I do so because I want Labour to do better. Not because I don’t think that a lot of what they are doing is good. But because I think it could be done better. And I’m not immune to the natural Eyorish tendancies of the Labour membership.
But for now, let us eat mint chocolates and cheese flavoured things that are shaped like playing cards but seem to have no agreed upon name.
Let us sing carols and enjoy twinkly lights. Let’s hug the family close and escape to the friends for New Year.
Deck the halls my friends. Tis the season to be jolly. 2025 is a year with all its potential remaining. It will be my 50th year on this Earth. I made it. You will too.
Happy Christmas.
Happy Christmas Emma, I hope you have a well earned break and a wonderful Christmas with your friends and family. Thank you all your insights over the year and look forward to more to come in what is likely to be a tumultuous year for us all.
